The Still Small Voice of Love

The Still, Small Voice of Love- By Henri Nouwen

Many voices ask for our attention. There is a voice that says, "Prove that you are a good person." Another voice says, "You'd better be ashamed of yourself." There also is a voice that says, "Nobody really cares about you," and one that says, "Be sure to become successful, popular, and powerful."

But underneath all these often very noisy voices is a still, small voice that says,

"You are my Beloved, my favor rests on you."

the voice we need most of all to hear. To hear that voice, however, requires special effort; it requires solitude, silence, and a strong determination to listen.

That's what prayer is. It is listening to the voice that calls us "my Beloved."

COME AS CLOSE AS YOU WANT

Holy God take my heart Purge with flame and truth
A holy heart is all I want That I may live with You
Holy God, take my heart Purge with flame and truth
A humble heart is all I want That I may live with You

Come as close as You want
Consume this heart that longs to burn
I know your fire can hurt
But I would be worse here without you

For I was made to dwell with You And how I ache until I do

Come and take all these chains
That get in the way of what You want
And as I stand in the flame
Still I will say I trust you God!

POUR MY LOVE ON YOU

Like oil upon your feet Like wine for you to drink
Life water from my heart I pour my love on you
With praises like the perfume I lavish mine on you
Till every drop is gone I pour my love on you
I don't know how to say exactly how I feel
And I can't begin to tell you what your love has meant
I'm lost for words
Is there a way to show the passion in my heart
Can I express how truly great I think you are
You're my dearest friend
